As I was rounding on MDU last night, there were a few nurses gathered around one specific room. As I inquired a little further, I noticed a tiny, elderly gentleman, who looked like he was having a difficult time breathing, lying in the bed. Next to him sat Jennifer Bedel holding his hand and talking quietly to him. I learned that this gentleman was a DNR and he had no family there and was close to taking his last breath. Jennifer looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, "no one deserves to die alone." I could not help but shed a few tears as this moment touched my heart so deeply. Wow is all I can say to this awesome team tonight!! Despite a very busy night, Jennifer displayed what nursing is truly about! I am so proud of her dedication to this patient and the profession that we get to do every day!
