Jennifer is one of the most thorough, knowledgeable Advance Practice Nurses I have worked with in my 10 years in the ED Observation Unit. She is a service to our patients as a true patient advocate. She has exceptional diagnostic and clinical skills, and does not get distracted by extraneous details that can complicate cases. I have observed Jennifer professionally interact with providers from all specialties, and continue to persist and preserver with a concern until it is addressed for the patient. She uses the most up to date, evidence based references to guide her care of patients, and will stop at nothing to get to the bottom line for the patient.
Recently in our unit, a young pregnant women who had undiagnosed diffuse abdominal pain with inconclusive testing maintained complaints of this pain despite being evaluated by several specialists. Because testing did not show any specific etiology, the plan was to tentatively discharge the patient, but Jennifer refused to do so, and continued to contact providers to work with them to discover the cause of her symptoms. She persisted in getting the patient admitted, and the patient subsequently went to the OR that evening with a bowel obstruction that had not definitively manifested itself earlier. This is not the first time I have observed Jennifer expertly guide her patients care. She handles herself quietly and professionally in all ways, including using HEAT process with patients when the situation calls for this.
I have always observed her presenting herself as a caring partner in care to her patients, carefully listening to their concerns. She is an exceptional Advance Practice Nurse whose thorough clinical knowledge, tenacity and caring efforts make her a true DAISY Nurse. Sadly for our unit, Jennifer will be beginning a new journey working in the CV ICU. I know she will continue to make a difference in the lives of all of the patients she encounters.
