Jen followed her to her procedure with the computer and basically stayed with her every step of the way while she was awake to be able to communicate with her.
Jen took her time to help a deaf patient who was also legally blind. The hospital was unable to secure an in-person interpreter even though the procedure had been scheduled over a week out. After she worked to try to get an in-person interpreter, and when all options failed, she contacted the patient over the weekend with the option to cancel and reschedule her surgery, and the patient declined to cancel. The Patient came in yesterday, and Jen was innovative and used a WOW with word pulled up in VERY Large Font to write messages to her in a size she could read. They communicated back and forth using the computer and it was successful. Jen was also able to teach her how to use her home glucometer, as her endocrinologist never showed her how to use it using the same method. Jen followed her to her procedure with the computer and basically stayed with her every step of the way while she was awake to be able to communicate with her. She really went above and beyond and was innovative in being able to provide this patient with compassionate care.
