My sister was with my mother when we received news we weren't prepared for. We were very nervous and scared for our mom. I showed up early the next morning so we could meet with the hospitalist and learn what my mother was facing. What I found was a calm room, my mother smiling and comfortable, and a wonderful nurse, Jennifer, who has a beautiful mix of professionalism, care, and compassion. She stayed on top of every medication, vital sign, and mom's comfort level while responding to 2 nervous daughters. It seemed immediately like we had known her forever. At one point, I left to run a couple of errands, and Jennifer called to update me on mom's status. We always knew what to expect from her communication.

Sunday, we had Jennifer as mom's nurse again. Mom had a bit of a rough start that morning, and Jennifer took care of the pain and nausea, staying in touch with the physician and getting her comfortable. Luckily, by early afternoon, mom was able to be discharged. That was undoubtedly the quickest, most efficient, and smoothest discharge we ever experienced. All of these things may seem like normal, every day duties of a nurse, but with Jennifer's sweet, calm, compassionate demeanor, I can say nothing bad about the whole admission. She made a huge difference to us.
