Her compassion was second to none and she kept her word. Jen truly displayed the traits and actions that make an incredible nurse.
I had surgery on Monday. After some complications, I was transferred to McHenry. After my nephrostomy tube was pulled out, I was in an extremely large amount of pain. After seeing the urologist, a CT scan was ordered.
After a couple of hours of waiting to go to get my scan, I started to develop nausea, chest pain, and difficulty breathing, on top of the pain I was already having. I hit my call light and Jen answered. From the moment she walked in, I knew I was in good hands. She reassured me everything would be figured out and put me at ease.
Jen was a true advocate for me. I started to have anxiety and my heart rate jumped to the 160s. Jen called a rapid response on me to ensure the proper care was given. I had a traumatic experience 2 years ago and I was concerned for my health. Jen grabbed my hand and promised me she was not going anywhere. Once I was medicated, I was able to go to CT. Jen never left my side. She was there talking me through everything and watching over me to ensure I was okay. I do not remember much after I was medicated, but I do remember Jen by my side the whole time and keeping her word that she would not leave me.
I ended up having to go to my 4th surgery that afternoon. Jen stayed with me until I went into the OR. I cannot express to you how much her actions meant to me and how much better I felt in her care. Her compassion was second to none and she kept her word. Jen truly displayed the traits and actions that make an incredible nurse. Every patient should be left with the feeling of peace and Jen did just that. Two days later, Jen worked again, and she made a point to come to check on me. I know she was just doing her job, but she left a lasting impression on me and for that, I will never forget her.
