I would love to nominate Jennifer Chapman for a DAISY Award and to commend her for truly living our mission - “we are with God’s help, a healing and spiritual presence for each other and for the communities we are privileged to serve”.
I was checking on a patient in the ICU, talking to Jennifer. As she updated the patient’s status telling me the patient was dying, you could see and hear the compassion and the empathy in her eyes and voice to which I have witnessed on numerous occasions. She then showed me how in her free time she was printing out strips of dying patients’ heart rhythms, reducing them in size, and putting them in miniature bottles (purchased by her) to give to the family members of those patients. This is just one of the many times I have seen Jennifer go above and beyond showing unconditional love and concern for others.
Jennifer often comes in on her days off and will bring a large goodie basket for all the team members to uplift their spirits as they work endlessly to care for patients and try to save lives. She always ensures there is either gum or candy for all team members and physicians to have some sort of “pick me upper”. Jennifer is most gifted at service recovery with those family members whose emotions may elevate due to the condition of their loved ones. She doesn’t hesitate to calm the situation and provide hugs to even those who may be the most upset or angry to show no matter what “she cares” - exuding behavior that all should emulate as she is an excellent representation of the mission of Our Lady of Lourdes. Jennifer is an extraordinary nurse who provides extraordinary care and who truly makes a difference in the lives of our patients, family members, and team members.
