Today Jennifer was called upon by me to see if she would look for an IV in two of my patients. One baby who weighed 580 grams needed an IV for NaBicarb and the other weighing 680 grams needed one for other meds. Both babies were critical with little to no sites available to stick. Jennifer laughingly said yes of course. Meanwhile, Jennifer had two critical patients of her own who needed their assessments. I offered to do her patients for her, but she said no thanks, she would get to them after she got my patients' IVs. Needless to say, Jennifer got both IVs for my patients - the whole time smiling and laughing as she always does. Jennifer is above and beyond the best clinician I know. She never says no to anyone when asked for help or an IV stick. She also places the majority of our PICC lines in the unit and staffs on days we are short. I often hear people tell her, "Jennifer, don't ever quit." or "I don't know what the unit would do without you." She is very selfless in her role, as many times she will forego her lunch to help someone out. She feels deep compassion for the patients. She is very professional with parents as well as staff members.
