Jennifer Phillips is always a wonderful charge nurse who goes above and beyond for her teammates. I can always count on her to lead her team at night and provide excellent patient care. However, on Tuesday night, she went above and beyond for one of our patients and I wanted to spotlight her for a moment. We had a patient who came into the ER because he was smoking with his oxygen on and basically blew himself up. His sister was here with him and while he was being transferred, she couldn’t go with him. She admitted to Jennifer they had been living in a hotel room since October. Last week, they ran out of money and decided to live in their car until the next check came in. While her brother was in our ER, she tried to charge her phone to be able to notify family of the situation but was having a hard time getting her phone to charge. When her brother was transferred, Jennifer spoke with the sister, who said she would be fine staying in her car for the time being. Jennifer took money out of her own pocket to provide a hotel room to the sister for the night so she (and their elderly dog) could get a good night's sleep and get her phone charged appropriately to notify family. It is these moments that I can see how God used Jennifer to bless one of our patients……….. Jennifer is always someone I admire, but she shone a little brighter that night.
