Jennifer Deweese RN, Step Down Unit Allegiance Health Hospital, facilitated the meeting between two families who had similar situations.

Jennifer was taking care of a young man who attempted to take his own life and who likely has anoxic brain injury. This young man will likely be a total care patient for the rest of his life. This young man had tried on several occasions to take his own life and more the tragedy is that he is a father and was soon to be wed to the mother of his children.

Jennifer was also taking care of another young man who had attempted to take his life but was caught in time and no long-term damage was done; he would likely resume a normal life with help.

Jennifer approached the families and facilitated the meeting of these two young men with their father's present. One who likely would never talk again and another who has a second chance at life. The meeting was emotional for all, and the courage of Jennifer to bring these two families together under such trying conditions showed her compassion, respect for life and innovation.
