Jennifer Dixon has been extraordinarily kind and extremely helpful to me during the past four months. When I was in the hospital for two weeks in May, I had a wound vac and an ileostomy. Not only was I frightened, but I was repulsed by my wound and ostomy; I couldn't even look at them. I was so affected by my situation that I became nauseated when Jennifer came to change the wound vac dressing and the ostomy. I had to be sedated to get through it. She was so patient and kind to me. She never shamed me for being so childish and irrational.
I left the hospital and transitioned to home health care feeling very apprehensive about how I was going to be able to take care of myself. On the day I was discharged, Jennifer gave me her phone number assuring me it would be all right to call her for help if I needed it. After two months of visits by the home health nurse, I was on my own with caring for my ostomy. I have had problems with a hernia and the ostomy appliance fitting properly, and I had very irritated skin and was dealing with leaks that were occurring frequently.
After a month of my ostomy problems and being totally exasperated, I texted Jennifer for help. She spent about 30 minutes with me showing me how to make a crusting to cover the skin, and she informed me of other products of which I was unaware to help with the leaks. It was exactly the information that I needed. I was so touched by her concern and her willingness to help me. Her job is to help patients in the hospital, not those who are discharged. I really don't know what I would have done without her help.
