Jennifer Duos was on duty during the last two days of our son's stay in the NICU Transition Nursery. In addition to exemplifying great care and skill when handling my son, Jennifer's warm personality enabled me to leave the hospital upon my baby's discharge from the NICU feeling confident and self-assured that I would be successful in independently caring for my baby at home.
I had just delivered my first child, and as a result, had many questions on establishing proper baby handling techniques. Jennifer took the time to answer each of my questions thoroughly and offered examples from her personal experiences. In situations where I felt overwhelmed, Jennifer was able to offer consolation and was successful in making me revert back to having a positive attitude.
During sessions of baby feeding, changing, and even when executing vaccinations, Jennifer took great care to maximize the comfort of my baby. Moreover, Jennifer took the time to showcase and explain the proper techniques she was following so that I could feel more comfortable in replicating them at home.
Jennifer prioritized the privacy of the baby and mother. There were situations during the two days where a guest was accompanying me at the NICU and was not offering me the privacy I required to feel comfortable when breastfeeding. Jennifer was able to identify these situations and handled them with great professionalism through polite conversations with my guest.
Jennifer showcased strong management and communication skills during the day of discharge. She was able to coordinate unscheduled car-seat education training and CPR training. When going through the discharge packet highlighting proper crib instructions, Jennifer was successful in communicating key messages clearly which we were able to retain.
Overall, I could not have had a better experience than I did during the last two days of my baby's NICU admission with Jennifer. Due to Jennifer's professionalism, my husband and I felt that we were well versed with knowledge of how we could offer our baby a smooth transition from the NICU to home.
