Jennifer displayed the maturity and ability to thoughtfully and effortlessly engage faculty, peers, and patients in conversation, instilling confidence in her ability to provide quality nursing care.
Most notably, Jennifer displayed professionalism, leadership, care, and compassion during her spring 2022 semester community health clinical experience. Jennifer was assigned to the Communicable Disease Program at the Frederick County, Maryland Health Department. She assisted with the immunization clinic for children and worked extremely well with clients and staff. In the words of her clinical preceptor, “Jennifer quickly learned and understood the process/flow of the clinic and immediately claimed and owned her role as a student nurse. Her demeanor was comforting to anxious parents and crying children as she always presented a calm and professional presence. Jennifer was excited to learn, confident, knowledgeable, and willing to do whatever task that was asked of her.

As a preceptor, I was excited and truly enjoyed teaching and talking to Jennifer as her enthusiasm and positivity were contagious. Jennifer showed compassion and caring while working with clients and I truly believe that nursing is her passion. It was refreshing to work with a student who is genuine, teachable, and strives to be better than the day before. She accepted guidance, direction, and advice and always took advantage of a teaching moment. As the Communicable Disease program manager at the FCHD, it is encouraging to work with a student nurse that exhibits all the qualities of becoming an exceptional nurse who understands her clients and can connect with them emotionally. I would be proud to welcome Jennifer as part of my Communicable Disease team one day in the future.”

As a nursing student at Hood College, Jennifer displayed the maturity and ability to thoughtfully and effortlessly engage faculty, peers, and patients in conversation, instilling confidence in her ability to provide quality nursing care. Jennifer exemplified a spirit of empathy, compassion, leadership, and advocacy in nursing, which is why her nomination for the 2022 student DAISY Award is no surprise to all Hood College nursing program faculty and students.
