Jen went above and beyond to help a family feel comfortable in the Children's Emergency Department. The family's 3-year-old has just suffered a febrile seizure. When they arrived, mom was holding the patient limp in her arms. This is when Jen, without hesitation ran to the mom, calmly took the child and brought him to a room. The CED team then all jumped on board, working seamlessly and efficiently to establish an IV, set the patient on a monitor, send diagnostic tests; the steps necessary to treat an undifferentiated emergent patient.
Throughout this process, the team tried to do their best to keep mom calm; however, none of it was working. It was not until Jen went up to the Mom, gave her a big hug and said, "From a Mama to a Mama, your son's going to be okay," that got through to her and she calmed down. I am blessed to have a wonderful team of nurses in the CED. It's nurses like Jen who go above and beyond what is generally expected of them, who make a real difference in patient's lives. It's what makes WakeMed and the CED special.
