Like witnessing Usain Bolt on the track or Michael Phelps in a pool, we are instantly aware of unparalleled talent. Jennifer Favaro is a nurse beyond compare. With more than three decades in medicine and exposure to many highly capable, professional, and compassionate nurses, I have never encountered a nurse who shines in as many areas of endeavor. She is highly motivated and applies boundless energy, enthusiasm, and expert clinical expertise with serenity and a smile, no matter how challenging the circumstances. As a 32 yr old mother of two, she provided 'round the clock clinical counsel to frightened patients during the height of the pandemic. While enduring a year of chemotherapy and radiation, she remained arguably the most energetic and positive member of our clinical team, expertly addressing patient concerns while chemo dripped into her body. An elderly patient, who had stubbornly refused intervention for his life-threatening CAD and aortic stenosis, was coaxed into emergent lifesaving surgery by Jenny...from her chemo chair!!! (He continues to be alive and well). It is the patients who recurrently extol her exemplary devotion and testify to her relentless and extraordinary efforts on their behalf. At any given moment, she is encouraging a frightened patient to follow up regarding serious test findings, checking on the medication availability and pricing for an elderly widow, and patiently explaining to a patient the rationale for therapy for the umpteenth time. This is all while assisting other team members with their loads, earning her the respect and appreciation of her colleagues. Patients and co-workers have exhausted superlatives in describing their nurse, friend, and advocate. She is an outstanding emissary for the nursing profession.
