I felt the most blessed during this experience when I knew Jennifer was watching over my son.
Where do I even start? Our son was born prematurely. 25 weeks and 4 days to be exact. We lived over an hour away from the hospital and had a one-year-old at home so we had limited time when we could get out to the hospital.
When I first met Jennifer, I could immediately tell that she loved what she did. She had a warm greeting and spoke directly to my son instead of just about him. She saw him as a baby and not just a patient. That first day she was our nurse one of her first questions was if I was doing skin-to-skin and it was so refreshing to not have to feel like I was bothering someone. She always had it set up for me as well when I arrived knowing I was on a tight schedule.
Jennifer always fully explained how he was doing and checked on me to see how I was feeling and if it was a setback. She quickly got to know my son and what worked best for his care. She always knew which position he wanted to be in and whether he really wanted his pacifier or not. She also constantly advocated for my son and all the babies she had. She wasn't afraid to stand up for them and what they needed.
Jennifer always went above and beyond she was always doing what she could to help others (after taking care of her babies of course). She specifically went above and beyond for us when my son had pyloric stenosis. It runs in my family, and it showed up as it did with everyone else. However, I was dismissed a lot as I told people for a multitude of reasons but when I told Jennifer she made it her mission to get us an ultrasound. It was a lot of back and forth as it was caught too early but eventually, he was finally having surgery! He was moved to a different room and then pod but Jennifer still always stopped by to check on us.
We've had many amazing nurses during our stay but there's just something extra special about Jennifer and her level of care. I could tell multiple stories about the positive difference she made on not only my son's stay but, on our life, but I'll leave it at I felt the most blessed during this experience when I knew Jennifer was watching over my son.
