Floating is never anyone's favorite thing to do, This RN was scheduled to float 7-11am. Around 0900 we were informed that we would need to float a third RN 11-3 on a different unit, which would mean floating 3 different RN's in one shift. The nurse was asked if she would prefer to come back to her unit and replace the other RN who now needed to float or go down to the other float to float with a different assignment for another 4 hours and then come back to take an assignment on her home floor. This RN knew that the RN already had an assignment and would probably have to float for 4 hours and then have to come back and pick up an assignment on the original floor. She simply stated "It's fine I will float, take one for the TEAM". What a wonderful thing to do for the "TEAM" especially on a weekend. It was truly appreciated!!
