My water broke at night. I called my husband, who is a correctional officer at the state correctional institute in Camp Hill. He immediately left his post to meet me at the hospital. I called my friend who lives down the street, and they were able to give me a ride to the hospital. I began crowning in her car and was very nervous because I was involuntarily pushing.

When I got to the hospital, the security guard rushed me to the unit. Within minutes, they delivered my baby girl. I was by myself aside from the doctor, midwife, and nurses. My friend parked the car and arrived after my baby was already delivered and my husband arrived three minutes after.

The midwife, Jen, helped me through the whole process and advocated for me to wait for my husband prior to cutting the cord. She also continued to advocate for me throughout my 24-hour stay to ensure that I got home when I wanted to go home. As someone who is extremely anxious at baseline, I felt she took the time to listen to me and see me as a whole person, not just numbers on a screen.

She definitely changed my life, even though I didn't know her before this experience. She took the time to review my chart and get to know me before making any assessments. She asked appropriate questions to ensure that we were getting the care that we were hoping for. She understood that my delivery was not what I expected and tried to make sure everything else went smoothly for me.

While the rest of the nurses and providers were wonderful, I felt like she truly took the time to listen and understand.

Thank you, Jennifer, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
