I had a total hip replacement surgery. Waking up in P.A.C.U. I was taken care of overnight by an Angel. Having suffered for more than a year with my hip, I was quite concerned considering the enormity of the surgery that was to be performed. E.K.G.s were reading slightly off, ( I have one stent after a heart attack in 2008), and the existence of a hematoma was going to keep in there for observation. R.N. Gonzalez utilized skills in excess of those taught in Nursing School. Her calm demeanor and even tone as she explained I was okay, there were precautions being taken for my benefit. Her nursing skills are of the best as she replaced an I.V. line painlessly. I am amazed also that she was always available for my needs. I recognize that I was not the only patient in the room and I am sure she was responsible for more than just me. She never failed to respond immediately to all my needs and concerns. She displays a combination of Nursing skills and excellent personal communication skills that erased my anxiety almost completely. It is not the marble floors, concrete pillars or paintings that adorn your walls. It is the people who work at H.S.S. that are your greatest assets. People like R.N. Jennifer Gonzalez. People who don't only show up on payday, they are dedicated to your mission and they deliver! The following morning as her shift was ending she didn't just walk away. She worked all night and I'm sure she had family of her own that she wanted to be with. She stopped, she encouraged, she applauded my overnight achievements, and she reminded me of what my future could be. It's only four days now since my surgery, and she was right.
