Becoming new parents is usually both an exciting time and a nervous time. When things do not go as expected, this time is extremely stressful. A couple recently came to Mary Immaculate to deliver their baby. They came with a birth plan that they put together thoughtfully as to what they want and do not want in the care for their baby. Their plan went out the window when their baby was admitted to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. This couple had to hang on to what they could in the birth plan and let go of what they could not control. One thing they wanted was to establish breastfeeding, which was an ongoing challenge with this baby. Mother and baby were having a particularly challenging morning. Staff called Jennifer Hall who is both a NICU nurse and a lactation consultant. Jennifer came in on her day off which was also a Sunday to help this new mother breastfeed her baby!

Jennifer went above and beyond in supporting this family with their bonding, wishes and desires as their baby was in the NICU. Jennifer is a true asset to the unit and all of our new families in the Birthplace.
