Jenny took over care for a patient in the NICU who had a palliative condition, and whose family had decided to transition to comfort care. The family had been struggling with the decision and deciding upon a time for the transition. When Jenny took over care for the patient it was a little unclear where the family was in their thought process. Jenny established a good rapport with the family, asked straightforward questions, and provided a safe space without judgment for the family to process and grieve. The connection was fast and deep to a family who was sometimes tough to connect with. Within one shift of Jenny being their nurse, they already decided they really wanted her there when transitioning to comfort care. Jenny helped make the family feel at ease and at peace with the impossible decision they faced. She made an impact and connection with the family they will remember forever.
