June 2026 Honoree
Jennifer Jaquay, RN
Jennifer cared for a patient who recently had a first-time colostomy bag placed; the patient was very self-conscious about its appearance. As one can imagine, this took quite a toll on the patient’s self-image. Jennifer cared for this patient for multiple days and established a rapport with her. Jennifer, an avid crocheter, borrowed a colostomy bag to take home and crochet a colostomy cover for the patient to use after discharge to help conceal her colostomy bag. Jennifer had no pattern to go by, so she designed it herself, paying attention to details like making sure the hole was the right size for the device to fit through and leaving the bottom open so the patient could empty the bag without removing it. The day Jennifer brought this in and gave it to the patient, the patient was totally overjoyed and cried happy tears! The patient felt heard and understood, and someone should be commended for taking the time to go above and beyond to help her through this life-altering moment!
Thank you, Jennifer, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
