Jen had a patient that was newly diagnosed with Cancer. The patient's prognosis was very poor(only 2 to 3 months). Jen spent a lot of time sitting and talking with the patient the first night. On her second night with the patient, he had become very depressed about his situation and lack of family support. All he wanted to do was to go home and get some real food. In particular, he was craving chicken and Strawberry Shortcake. Jen remembered her husband was out shopping, so she called him and had him pick up Royal Farms chicken and a Strawberry Shortcake for her patient. The patient thought he was hallucinating when he smelled the chicken as Jen brought it into his room. His eyes lit up and he had a big smile on his face as he realized that it was not a hallucination. That patient was very grateful and thanked Jen for making him forget his situation as he ate every bite!
Jen always does whatever it takes to make her patient's forget their problems and smile, even if it is just for a short while.
