caring for her patients is not her only superpower, she is also an extraordinary team member. She is the first one to jump and run when a co-worker needs assistance.
I want to recognize a nurse that embodies all the qualities of a modern-day Florence Nightingale. Jennifer Felps has been recognized countless times by both handwritten patient letters and in our Press Ganey survey comments. Every patient has a unique, yet collective experience of the individualized care of this RN. She truly takes caring for patients to another level. In fact, there was a time that she went downstairs to the retail pharmacy and purchased a patient’s prescription medications out of her own pocket because the patient realized they had forgotten their debit card at home. When the patient suggested that they could return the next day to pick them up, she insisted, claiming she was happy to do it, so they didn’t have to make a return trip. You will find this nurse in a patient’s room for minutes on end answering their questions, adjusting their pillows, or refilling their ice packs, even though she knows she will be stuck working late to catch up on all her charting. Her top priority is always to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible. In nursing school, we are taught to treat each patient as if they were your mother lying in the bed and this nurse truly makes every patient feel as if they were family. From her warm touch to her cheerful demeanor, somehow, she seems to transform them from a patient into a loved one. But, caring for her patients is not her only superpower, she is also an extraordinary team member. She is the first one to jump and run when a co-worker needs assistance. She will never sit while another drowns. She will never tell her supervisor no when she knows she is already overwhelmed with a large patient load.
