I was hospitalized at CAMC Memorial suffering from pneumonia, dehydration, and chronic kidney failure. During my stay, I began to vomit green and was unable to have a bowel movement even after taking laxatives and stool softeners. My nurse was very concerned and became my advocate, talking to the hospitalist physician about her concerns that I may have a blockage and inquiring about tests, ultrasounds, and x-rays and felt a GI consult was warranted.
As a direct result of my nurse's persistence, I had a GI consult and it was discovered that I had an intestinal blockage in an umbilical hernia that required emergency surgery. Jennifer is a DAISY Nurse because in addition to her outstanding care she provided, her knowledge of being my advocate, keeping me and my family informed, her special bedside manner, and truly caring for me and my family's needs. I truly believe my nurse saved my life and I am forever grateful to her.
