Jennifer played a pivotal and critical role in getting everyone on the right page and formulating a plan for my mother’s care.
I always knew in my heart that angels walked among us on the earth. Like most people, I have never had a true experience with one until Jennifer Wilson came into our lives. My 82-year-old mother broke her hip and was brought into the ER. She was admitted to the hospital for the hip, but there was also concern that she may have had a heart attack or other serious heart event because of extremely high blood enzyme readings. Cardiology, a trauma team, and orthopedics were all involved in trying to determine the best course of action for her.
Jennifer came into the hospital room to speak with me and my brother about making some difficult medical decisions for our mother, all conveyed with care, compassion, and honesty. While Jennifer was still in the room, the cardiologist came in and explained that my mother must have a stress test to make sure her heart could withstand surgery. She went on to explain that if anything was found, a stent would need to be installed surgically and it would delay surgery on the hip for 3 months due to the need for blood thinners.
Jennifer saw the look of shock on my face, and stepped in and said there may be some other possible options available. Jennifer offered to speak with the team of physicians and see if they could come up with a better solution. Jennifer returned and told us Dr. K had agreed to do the hip surgery without the stress test. Within hours the team arrived to take my mother to surgery. My mother returned to her room a couple of hours later, alert, happy, and most impressively to us, hungry. Dr. K said everything went well.
Our mother was released 2 days after surgery, and Dr. K declared her a rockstar. I can’t imagine what our world would have looked like if Jennifer had not been in my mother’s room when the cardiologist came to speak with us. I know someone must have been looking out for us when Jennifer walked into our life. We will never forget what she did for our family.
