Jennifer's professionalism, compassion, and commitment to her patients made a difference in my brother's life.

Recently, my brother was admitted to UTMC for complications regarding his cancer treatments. It was really hard on the family as he was so young and struggling with cancer for many years. Unfortunately, he had a turn for the worse. After years of chemo, radiation, wound care, and surgeries; we were told that he only had 3 weeks to live. My brother couldn't walk, talk or communicate. His pain was unimaginable. We met nurse Jennifer Marlowe on the 4th floor. Jennifer called my sister-in-law at the beginning of her shift to report a change in my brother's condition. My brother went from a practically unresponsive state to alert, walking, and having conversations. We quickly assembled at the hospital.

Jennifer was kind, and compassionate and advocated for my brother's wishes. My brother said he wanted to die at home and wanted to go home today. The social workers, doctors, and Hospice said he couldn't be discharged for several days. Jennifer went out of her way to call and arrange a way for my brother to go home. She made dozens of calls, kept us informed and she made it happen. Her professionalism, compassion, and commitment to her patients made a difference in my brother's life. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family 48 hours later. Jennifer's extra efforts and creative planning made a difference in our lives.
