She transformed a lengthy and frustrating situation into a glittering display of professionalism, an ebullient personality, deep concern for her patients' needs, and a consummate willingness to go beyond the call, whatever it might be, for her patients.
We are pleased to nominate Jennifer for this award. I entered the ED in the afternoon, suffering from a painful GI problem. Our first ED physician told me I needed to be admitted, and a bed was found for me at BGMC, which took a couple of hours. I had no sooner landed in that room when the doctor sorrowfully noted that the procedure I needed was not available at Banner Gateway. I needed to be transferred to another hospital and was sent back to the ED.
That is when Jennifer went to work on our problem and was there with us through her 12-hour shift. She met with my wife and me, who accompanied me, and told us that she would review the medical order for me while I remained there. Within minutes, I was comforted with a bed and provided with an IV for pain and nausea. The hours dragged on as her superiors tried to identify which hospital was best equipped for my needs. All that time, Jennifer kept a regular watch on us, monitoring my care by the moment, reinitiating doctor involvement to locate a care facility more than once, and visiting with us as her time permitted, which increased our comfort and reduced our growing frustration and worry.
When it was clear that I would be there a while, she found a hospital bed and swapped it out for the ED gurney that I had been on, by then, for several hours. Clearly, a well-schooled ambassador for Banner, along with her own personal caring and professional skills and talents, she helped us pass the time with all the time she could spare until my destination was determined. She then contacted a contract transport service to take me to Banner Desert. Through no fault of hers, it took them nearly two hours to get a unit to Gateway for the transfer. Jennifer never left us through the whole ordeal. In summary, she transformed a lengthy and frustrating situation into a glittering display of professionalism, an ebullient personality, deep concern for her patients' needs, and a consummate willingness to go beyond the call, whatever it might be, for her patients. Because we're sure she does this for all of her patients, she has earned a daisy... or a field of them, perhaps!
