Jennifer took care of a trauma patient in police custody because she was found breaking into a house. The girl would not give her name and did not want to talk to anyone. Jennifer noticed the patient's injuries could not have occurred due to breaking into a house, instead, they were more consistent with being assaulted. Jennifer felt something did not seem right. Jennifer spent the rest of her shift trying to gain the patient's trust. The patient then began to talk to her and told Jennifer her real name, and her story. The patient was from another state and was brought to Phoenix 2 weeks prior. She was being held by people that she only knew their first names. Due to Jennifer's assessment skills, compassion, and advocacy for her patient, she was able to identify the patient as being a victim of trafficking.
