Although my grandmother was only admitted for about two days, the impact Nurse Jennifer made on our family during that short time was profound and unforgettable. In the midst of an incredibly painful and emotional experience, she provided not only exceptional nursing care, but also genuine compassion, warmth, and humanity.

From the moment we met her, Nurse Jennifer carried herself with kindness and calm. She always seemed to know the right words to say—words that comforted us, reassured us, and helped us feel supported during a time when nothing felt steady. Her presence alone brought a sense of peace to a situation filled with fear and grief.

Our family is large—fifteen grandchildren gathered to be with my grandmother—and Nurse Jennifer never once made us feel like a burden. Instead, she was accommodating, patient, and deeply caring toward every single one of us. She treated our family with respect and empathy, understanding how important it was for us to be together during those final moments.

When my grandmother passed away after approximately 48 hours, Nurse Jennifer continued to show extraordinary thoughtfulness. Without being asked, she brought us drinks such as juice, water, and soda—small gestures that meant so much in a moment when we were overwhelmed and barely able to think about our own needs. Those acts of kindness reminded us that we were not alone and that someone truly cared about our well-being.

What stood out most was how Nurse Jennifer went above and beyond to support not just the adults, but also the children in our family. She took the time to play mini games with my niece—my grandmother’s second great-granddaughter—to help lighten the mood during such a heavy time. My niece absolutely adored her, especially when they played “We listen and we don’t judge.” That simple act of joy brought smiles, laughter, and a sense of normalcy when we desperately needed it.
Additionally, Nurse Jennifer informed us about the game room at the hospital café, giving our family a space to step away briefly and breathe. That thoughtfulness showed how deeply she understood the emotional toll we were experiencing.

Nurse Jennifer did far more than fulfill her role as a nurse—she cared for our entire family during one of the most difficult moments of our lives. Her compassion, emotional intelligence, and selfless kindness are exactly what the DAISY Award represents. We will never forget the comfort she provided, and we are endlessly grateful for the care she gave to my grandmother and to all of us.

Thank you, Jennifer, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
