Jen sat with the patient and made sure to talk her through the process. She held her hand and talked her through the pain.
I think that Jen deserves recognition for the care and compassion that I observe her giving every day. I’ve known that Jen is a great nurse for a while now, but I was given a reminder this past Sunday. I was on the code team with her and we had approximately six rapid responses and two code blue activations in our twelve-hour shift. It was a hectic day, we were short-staffed, tired, and the whole team was just trying their best to keep up. It was almost 6pm when the last code rapid response of our shift was paged overhead. We all responded to a chronically ill patient who was having trouble breathing. While the team ran through our motions and worked to treat the patient it was Jen who went above and beyond. She sat with the patient and made sure to talk her through the process. She held her hand and talked her through the pain. She fixed her bed and sat with her as we tried to find solutions. She presented her ideas and got the team's input. She talked with the bedside nurse and made sure that everyone was okay, and did it in such a manner that showed how much she cared. On a day when I know she was tired and wanted nothing more than to go home, she spent the extra time to show why HH and its nursing team are truly special.
I think that the hard work of someone like this can sometimes go overlooked because Jen does this on such a regular basis. I truly think that Jen embodies what is to be a DAISY Nurse.
