December 2024 Honoree
Jennifer Philman 3, RN
My husband had a surgery, and we had a wonderful experience with BayCare Sarasota Home Care. I feel bad it took so long to write this, but we have been dealing with a lot. Please know we are grateful for the kindness and expertise of every nurse who came to our home.
Jenn gave us her cell number and would return our texts and phone calls quickly with answers. We saw her hold for the surgeon’s office only to leave messages; she requested lidocaine more than once (when we were at the surgeon’s office a week later, the NP said she hadn’t listened to her messages yet). Jenn consulted with her lead for the best product to help my husband heal. Jenn suspected an infection. She left a message for the surgeon. We were scheduled to see the surgeon the next day. We told the surgeon, and he became angry (stated he was the surgeon, and the wound nurse was only there to change the packing). We trusted Jenn; my husband had an appointment with his primary care physician that afternoon. Not even telling his primary what Jenn said, his PCP assessed his wound, put him on oral antibiotics, and wanted to see him in a week. A week later, the PCP ordered two IM injections of antibiotics (a day apart). He obviously agreed with Jenn. Last but not least, we needed to leave town. Jenn made sure I had the education and supplies to continue packing and dressing changes. She told me I could still call her with questions and concerns even when he was discharged from home care.
Note: This is Jenn's 3rd DAISY Award!
