She sat with the mom the entire time, trying to comfort her as much as she could, only imagining how she must feel.
Jennifer was on call for the surgery department. When she arrived to work, a patient was brought to the OR to donate their organs after life support would be withdrawn. The process is always difficult and heartbreaking for the family to make such a decision. The family spends so much time hoping and praying for life to ultimately have to let their loved one pass away. In this circumstance, Jennifer was not assigned to this case but realized she had worked with this patient’s mom many years ago and wanted to be there for her. She sat with the mom the entire time, trying to comfort her as much as she could, only imagining how she must feel. She told me she hoped her being there provided some relief to see a familiar face. After the patient had passed away, the family had to leave the operating room so the donation process could begin. Jennifer said her condolences to the mom and managed to do her assigned case, which was the liver transplant. She truly is incredible and has the biggest heart ever when caring for her patients.
