As a sitter in a patient room I witnessed Jennifer Rivera go above and beyond by communicating with the patient in his language of Spanish. Jennifer spent time sitting with the patient and talking with him to understand him and make him feel comfortable. I could tell the patient was anxious and Jennifer talked with him and made him feel less scared. Jennifer even stayed after her shift was over to talk with the patient so he would not be anxious about not being able to talk with the night staff because of language differences. Then Jennifer returned with a phone calling card so that the patient could call his loved ones. She also brought him food from a local Mexican restaurant so the patient could eat something that was familiar to him. The patient smiled for the first time and was able to rest after eating and using his calling card.
