Our unit was caring for a patient with severe back pain who desperately needed an MRI. The patient suffers multiple comorbidities and struggles to lay flat due to her pain and respiratory status. Due to this, multiple physicians have tried to coordinate the patient being transferred to ICU and electively intubated for the sake of the MRI, so she can be assessed for surgery. Jennifer went above the call of duty to get this test done for the patient. She was the charge nurse on the day the patient was scheduled for the MRI. She talked with the patient, calmed her and assured her they could get through the MRI without her being intubated. The patient agreed, and Jennifer went with her to the MRI. The patient made it through the MRI successfully, and without needing invasive measures. Because this nurse went the extra mile the patient avoided ICU transfer, intubation, and a prolonged wait for results.
