Jennifer is the definition of a caregiver. After a hematoma was removed from my right hip a few days following extensive fusion back surgery, a very strong ketoacidosis event was triggered. I've got a history of internal bleeding and infection, and this was my fourth back surgery. Jenn jumped into action immediately upon starting her shift. She cleaned out my wounds and replaced my bandages because she was not happy with the amount of infection and leaking that had occurred overnight. She worked in partnership with my surgeons in such a way that I have never seen before. They worked together to call in specialists to address my breathing difficulties and vomiting as well as the condition of my blood results which were changing on an ongoing basis. In addition, she established a tight team with her nurse colleagues to organize many tests including two CT scans to properly place a much-needed PICC line accurately.
Without question, Jenn is more than a nurse, she's a caregiver beyond compare. Unfortunately, I've had plenty of experience in hospitals due to my back issues, and equally as fortunate is the reality that there has been no other nurse I've had who brings such calmness, organization, and sheer ability into the environment to focus on the task ahead with a strong can-do attitude so the patient can simply feel better. I'm extremely grateful that Jenn was my nurse through this challenging time.
