The NICU, Kaiser, and our precious patients are lucky to have Jennifer Stewart as a Staff RN. Jennifer possesses countless skills and nursing attributes that are simply beyond reproach, and I am proud to recognize Jennifer as a DAISY Nurse.
Jennifer is an excellent and committed nurse. The Kaiser Handbook does not have a section stating a nurse must demonstrate unique generosity. Jennifer's generosity is simply amazing. The NICU cares for patients for months at a time, and Jennifer artfully navigates the fine line between surrogate "mommy" and focused NICU nurse. The patient's stay is taxing on the parents and Jennifer had a celebratory idea. She enhanced the Kaiser NICU care experience by sewing cute little "caps and gowns" for our patients as they prepare to "graduate" out of the NICU. On Graduation Day, the stunned parents proudly (and slowly) stride down a nurse lined hallway while "Pomp and Circumstance" plays gently in the background - there is not a dry eye in the house and the lovely scene is filled with elation and perspective. This day is what we as NICU nurses strive for, and Jennifer's generosity and vision redefined a routine "discharge" to a special "Kaiser Graduation". Jennifer has made similar efforts during the Christmas holiday season for our patients and their families.
The example set by Jennifer has made a difference in the way I care for patients and my career in general. Seeing parents cry uncontrollably as they walk down a hallway, reinforced the importance of delivering a better Kaiser experience until the very last moment. Little things are not little when they impact people so profoundly. Jennifer Stewart does not realize her style of care and generous nature has positively impacted her fellow nurses.
Kaiser is blessed to have incredible nurses and Jennifer Stewart is a wonderful nurse. Something as simple as her own needle and thread has sewn countless Graduation memories for scores of Kaiser patients and has made a positive impact on the care the Kaiser NICU provides. She has demonstrated that our care must be thoughtful and unique until we say our tearful goodbyes. Jennifer is truly a DAISY Nurse.
