You brought this patient warmth and wisdom.
NICU. A new mother’s worst fears - in four letters. One mother nominated her lactation nurse when she found herself struggling with breastfeeding during her baby's NICU admission. She was not only dealing with the stress that can accompany a mother while her child was in the NICU, but she was also struggling with pain and some unpleasant obstacles that are a part of breastfeeding in general. This mother writes, “The nurse's knowledge was immediately apparent, and she quickly grasped the complexity of my situation”. She spoke about receiving a detailed care plan with comprehensive instructions, the generous amount of time that this nurse spent with her, giving her invaluable support and guidance. And she mentioned the nurse visited her each day to follow up and monitor the progress of her situation. Jennifer, you were able to provide care in times of need, to encourage a mother who needed extra support, and found creative solutions to address her specific needs. Your patient was so grateful for your time, attention, and knowledge - all of which helped her succeed with her breastfeeding journey. You brought this patient warmth and wisdom. We are grateful for the skills and knowledge you bring to ILH each day.
