My 83-year-old mother was admitted to the hospital. We quickly knew it was serious, and we began this awful journey on the 4th floor. This hospital is full of talented and caring professionals, but there was one person who stood out. Jennifer Schwarz was a shining example of the qualities that it takes to be an asset to the hospital and a treasure to the patients who are lucky enough to have her on their care team. It wasn’t a thing she did, it was the way she did it. She never walked into a room without a smile and we were delighted every time she walked through the door. Jenni did everything in her power to make mom comfortable. She supported the family and answered all our questions. She made Mom feel “seen,” which meant the world to all of us. And Jenni did all of this with a contagious positivity. Mom speaks English as a second language and has her own unique sense of humor. Jenni jumped right in and was joking back making everyone feel comfortable. These days have not been easy on any of us, but Jenni made our days with her as good as they could possibly be. We have unfortunately experienced too many days with family members in the hospital, and therefore, we recognize what a difference the assigned nurse means to the patient and the family throughout the day. We feel fortunate for the days we had Jennifer Schwarz assigned to our mother.
