I can tell you our NICU journey would not have been the same without Jennifer Uttech. She holds so many great qualities and has impacted me so much that it will be hard for me to sum up without wiping tears off the ink on this paper. Bellin sure has a true gem in Jennie. Her years of service as an RN show her ability to truly connect with people and take care of them as her own family. I've only known her for a short time and I feel like I've known her as an extended family member my whole life. She has made our NICU stay seem so short when in reality, it was 5+ weeks.

The time with her was so enjoyable she made it go by so quickly! She took care of my son with such compassion, love, and courtesy, and was so knowledgeable when we had questions. Not only did she take care of my son well, but also treated myself and my husband with the same kind of compassion and energy. She sat up with me late into the night when I had to pump breast pump milk for my son and we would chat like old friends. She would also educate me on my son's status, and what to expect in the coming weeks.

He was born at 32 weeks and we knew we would have a very long journey. Jennie was one of those nurses who made the trip less daunting for us. She made light of such an unfortunate situation. Her attention to detail was one to admire as well. She always made sure our "chores" were done by her such as washing pump parts. She would always be so willing to hold and feed our son in a way that she knew when I needed to sleep, but also knowing how much I wanted to help the nurses by making their job easier. Jennie always made it easy to say "Yes, of course you can help!" (I am not the one to accept help... ever!) She went out of her way to say hi to us when she wasn't on task for my son and had other babies. She always thought of me. When I told her how much I loved Seroogy's chocolates, she scooped me up one of their new ones to try! Jennie's heart is everywhere in her job! Her motherly instincts and gentle soul radiate over every little thing she does. The comfort and peace I had knowing she was on duty was so great that I stayed home an extra night so I could visit my daughter one weekend when she was on duty.

Her experience and knowledge made me and my husband feel so comforted and we just knew our son was in the best hands. Her attention to detail again was impeccable. She took the time to get my son's handprints and footprints in his Baby Book. She made sure we had pictures and videos of important milestones in Luke's journey. She made a to-go package for me of pumping supplies before I went home to visit. She also made sure to say hello to my daughter anytime I was on the phone with her. Jennie would give me tips and tricks to make my daughter more comfortable with her brother too.

Jennie is a leader and any brand-new nurse needs to follow. Bellin has such a star when it comes to Jennie, her skillset and compassion are off the charts and honestly hard to describe. But, there is this one time I will always hold dear to my heart anytime I think of Jennie. The way she looked at my son, held him, and took care of him reminded me so much of family, and her smile, her unforgettable smile all the while she took care of my son showed so much love and compassion for "her baby" as she calls her Bellin family. Thank you so much, Jennie, you will hold a very special place in our hearts forever.

It is easy to see the love and compassion that Jennifer Uttech has both for her profession and the infants she cares for. From the first minute, Jennie was in the room, she made us feel calm and confident of the situation and the progress our son would make. Jennie used some different strategies based on her experience to help our son learn to feed with breathing assistance. She offered advice to my wife on lactation and also went above and beyond making sure our room was clean, fresh towels were available, and linens for the bed. Jennie's compassion continued by getting to know us as parents through conversation making us feel like we were part of her family. Jennie affirms why my wife and I travel one hour to come to Bellin for our medical needs because of the quality of care we receive and the quality of many individuals who work here."
