I wanted to write to you to let you know about one of your amazing nurses, Jen Vansant. She was my daughter, S's Visiting Nurse. S was diagnosed with stage IVA cervical cancer in January 2017. She passed less than a year later.
We started seeing Jen shortly after her diagnosis. Jen was a godsend. Jen and my daughter had a great rapport. S and Jen were always talking "nurse". S was attending Del Tech for Nursing prior to her diagnosis and to hear them talk tech was such a joy for me to listen to.
We always looked forward to Jen's visit. Jen was always an advocate for S. She contacted the doctors, hospital and supply companies on behalf of her. When things weren't getting done, Jen made sure everything went through. The doctors we visited were impressed with the level of care she was providing to S. We relied on her advice. She always had many suggestions including nutrition, general care, and expectations. She sent us test results as soon as she received them, at times calling to let us know we needed to go to the hospital. She kept in touch with S, even while she was in the hospital.
She was always caring, pleasant and professional. She made us laugh when we were down. She made an incredibly difficult time much easier for us. I can't express in words how appreciative we were to have Jen in our lives at this time. I have learned from watching her that nursing is an incredibly hard but rewarding job. You know just from listening to her that she loves her job. She is truly an outstanding nurse.
