There was a big smile of happiness whenever Jenny entered my room and I realized she was assigned as my caregiver for that day.
7B personnel exhibit tremendous teamwork. Congratulations! Jenny stands out exceptionally in accurate medication passes and procedures. She delivers these with a warm and friendly demeanor. My inpatient meds looked different from my home meds. I take them seriously, so I double- or triple-check all my meds. I gained tremendous confidence because of her accuracy and knowledge of my meds. It was quite reassuring. There was a big smile of happiness whenever Jenny entered my room and I realized she was assigned as my caregiver for that day. I knew the day would go well. Her warmth and positive energy helped greatly. Being admitted for 6 months is grueling. Especially if I was so unfortunate to get a room without good TV reception (some rooms had as few as three channels making those walls close in on this political junkie).

One morning walk, she saw me from far down the hall. Even though she was not assigned to me that day, she came to give me a cheerful “good morning.” She noticed my saline bag was drops away from being empty, she took it upon herself to replace the bag. On another daily walk, Jenny saw me and we broke into a couple minutes of impromptu Motown medley of my favorites. It’s difficult dancing with a pole attached. Those around us had smiles from ear to ear. It was my favorite day. In a department full of wonderful staff, Jenny shines.

Although I am a new Nurse Manager for 7B, I feel like this award is long overdue for Ms. Jenny Greaves. Early on in my role as 7B Nurse Manager, I identified right away, her high level of commitment and passion for the staff and the patient population on this unit. I appreciate her honesty and opinion on all matters that concern 7B. I can't tell you how many times she has come to me to express her concern for things/people on this unit or run an idea by me. I hope I do right by her and resolve most of her concerns to her satisfaction or give serious consideration to her ideas, which are all good!

She expressed her concerns to me so much that in a Christmas card I received from her last year, she confessed her doubt about me as the successor to the previous Nurse Manager of this unit. But I'm happy to say, I made the cut! And I can't tell you how good it makes me feel! However, words cannot describe how proud and happy I am that Ms. Greaves is finally being recognized for her Nursing Service at the hospital, national, and international levels of our profession. Thank you, Ms. Greaves, for being a wonderful nurse to our patients and a great role model to the staff.
