On one of Jenny's charge shifts, it was brought to my attention that a dying patient's family had a concern and needed to speak with her. Jenny went to address the families' concern. Jenny was told of the religious beliefs of having the patient laid to rest as a whole person and how important it was to the family. They told her that the patient had a craniotomy in January and they really wanted to get the skull pieces back and asked if she could help. Jenny took it upon herself to make sure the families' wishes were met. Jenny spent all day trying to find the missing bone flaps for the family, hitting many roadblocks but continued to search for them. With the help from the NAM, Jenny was able to locate them for the family. The patient passed away and the family was so gracious that they were able to complete the burial process for their loved one. It takes someone special to realize the importance of a concern like this. She made a tragic time for a family less stressful and complicated. I am glad to have such a caring, compassionate, and loving nurse on my team.
