I began to notice a distinct difference in Jenny from other nurses. Even as charge she was always on her feet, she was getting blankets, moving stretchers, and probably most importantly she spoke to patients who were in stretchers awaiting procedures, putting them at their ease.
I had an opportunity to request Jenny be detailed to assist me with administrative duties in the GI Section. She came willingly and did not find any task "beneath her". Her motto truly is "It's for the patient". She has made rounds on inpatients with me, always finding ways to help them tolerate being admitted. This has included anything from searching for two days at every entrance of the hospital and visiting volunteer desks to try to find a newspaper for a very active Veteran who was having difficulty with his enforced inactivity, to replacing an IV that was falling out, and doing mouth care. The list can literally go on and on. This is all done behind the scenes because she is a nurse and takes that calling seriously.
Jenny is now the GI Program Manager; she is excelling in multitasking as everyone has priorities for her to address. She does so in a professional and efficient manner. She is making a difference for our Veterans.
