Our 20-year-old son was brought to Banner's Trauma Unit after a horrific car crash that left him brain-dead. He was a registered organ donor and we were left with the painful decision of whether to take him off the ventilator immediately and hope the doctors and donor network could scramble fast enough to find proper homes for his gifts or keep him on the ventilator long enough for the team to line the recipients up. We chose to leave him on the vent. This was an incredibly hard and long week. Jenny was a super nurse, who treated our son with dignity and grace. She treated our family with dignity and grace. She even took on extra shifts to make sure he was properly cared for and to be present when he was taken off the machines and brought into the operating room. She is a special kind of Nurse and health care worker. Banner is lucky to have her. She is one of those professionals who went above and beyond. For her, this was more than a job or just another patient, and we are eternally grateful.
