Not only was Jerald a fantastic medical nurse but also a great emotional support for me.
I was unexpectedly admitted into ICU because of cardiac complications due to my cancer. It’s been a very physically and emotionally trying time for me. The procedure performed was not sufficient, so another surgery is needed, and the PET scan shows that cancer had been advancing despite the chemo treatment, so it’s been a roller coaster of bad news. Thank God for Jerald. At a time when you don’t feel well and are relying on a button of Dilaudid, you want a nurse who stays on top of your nausea meds and pain meds and who rushes in when you push your call button. Not only was Jerald a fantastic medical nurse but also a great emotional support for me. I tend to internalize my feelings, so the day that I had to shave my hair off because I was getting bald spots, he picked up on my nervous and sad energy. He brought in another nurse. They put on Katy Perry while she shaved my hair. He then went on to patient care and got me a goodie bag, and he went to the gift shop to get me a beautiful pink journal to write my daily happy moments. He also got all the nurses to write beautiful notes of inspiration on a get-well card. It is a gesture that will stay with me through this journey and one I will never forget. It really was a special and beautiful way to help me get through a tough time in the ICU. Thank goodness for nurses like JD.
