Jeremiah is an asset to our department and I'm grateful our patients have high-quality nursing care even when their assigned nurse is on break.
Jeremiah is the break nurse in our department and often cares for more than 15 patients in a single shift. He has to constantly be shifting from one task to another in order to get all the other nurses to their break times. He is always willing to be flexible and his kindness towards all of us is very appreciated. He is always a team player and under routine circumstances, he is a nurse I am proud to work with.
Today I am specifically nominating him for the DAISY Award because of the initiative he took with a patient who wasn't "his" patient but another nurse's who was on break. This patient had very high blood pressure that was not responding to medications. This RN took the time to listen to his patient's complaint of needing to urinate but not being able to. Upon further investigation of the chart, he discovered that this patient has BPH and was unable to urinate. He immediately had the CNA do a bladder scan and called the doctor to get an order for a straight cath. After the patient's bladder was drained his SBP dropped from 200's to 115. Knowing this RN will take thorough care of all patients and initiate interventions even when he is only caring for patients in 30-minute increments is very comforting. He is an asset to our department and I'm grateful our patients have high-quality nursing care even when their assigned nurse is on break.
