Under Jeremy's guidance, the ED rallied to care for this new population of high acuity patients and demonstrated that we truly are all in this together!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many nurses, supportive personnel, and leaders have gone above and beyond to ensure the safe delivery of care during unprecedented times. From the beginning, Jeremy had a positive attitude and approach and led the team to make a significant impact on the care of their patients, the well-being of department staff, and the overall organization.
Working on the front lines and receiving some of the first PUI/COVID patients the emergency department staff was overwhelmed and scared of the unknown. The team looked to the Unit Director/Team for direction. Jeremy acted immediately and mobilized the ED team to put in place processes, supplies, and needed equipment to treat suspected COVID-19 patients. Jeremy's leadership and ability to pull the team together was what was needed to help the team feel supported and assurance that they would be safe. His reassuring presence and leadership abilities allowed the team to feel safe knowing that resources were readily available and his team was ready to offer the support they needed. Under Jeremy's guidance, the ED rallied to care for this new population of high acuity patients and demonstrated that we truly are all in this together!
When not in a pandemic the role of a Unit Director in a large ED/CDU is very stressful. Add in the added stress of completely changing workflows, ensuring we have adequate supplies and PPE, and ensuring the safety of the team only adds to the complexity of his role. Jeremy and his team quickly adapted and helped manage the onslaught of constant change. Jeremy stands out as a source of strength, thoughtfulness, safety, quality, and reassurance not only during the COVID crisis but every day as he leads the busiest Emergency Department in the Emory System. Because of Jeremy's commitment, the Emergency Department has been deemed as a COVID-outstanding unit, you will all be receiving DAISY COVID pins as recognition for your outstanding nursing excellence in care.
