I am nominating Jerrica for the Daisy Award after witnessing her go above and beyond for a patient on the Labor and Delivery floor. The patient was 35 weeks pregnant with right flank pain. After ruling out labor, and multiple attempts to relieve her pain, she was discharged, only to be re-admitted later that night.
Jerrica was her nurse during this re-admission and remained at her bedside for her stay. She was monitoring her vitals very carefully, counting respirations, watching the baby's heartbeat, all the while being empathetic are caring towards the patient and her family.
She advocated for the patient's needs and spoke up to the interdisciplinary teams to facilitate the right tests and lab work for the patient when she became unstable. Thanks to Jerrica, a Rapid Response Team was called when her condition quickly became critical, and the appropriate care was given to the patient who was eventually transferred due to her critical respiratory status and tachycardia.
Without Jerrica providing 100% attention to details, her patient could have had a different outcome. Even while on a busy labor unit, Jerrica's critical nursing skills, quick thinking, and fierce advocating, this patient was able to be transferred to a critical care unit all the while keeping her baby safe too.
We are lucky to have Jerrica as a nurse on Labor and Delivery.
