When it was time for our son’s honor walk, Jesse walked with us and wore his hero scrub cap. He said it was because our son is a hero!
Our son suffered a critical injury and was flown to Wesley Medical Center, where he was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Two days later, it was determined he had no brain activity. We were heartbroken and felt numb to the events happening around us, but the entire unit made us feel loved, especially Jesse.

Jesse showed compassion not just to our family, but to our son, knowing that he would not know the difference. Jesse bathed and washed him, caring for him just as I would. He would let me help, giving me my last memories with my son. He made sure I had everything I needed so I didn't have to leave the room. Being in the room with my son was important, and Jesse knew that.

Our family chose for our son to be a donor, and in doing so, extended his time in the PICU. During this time, we had so many friends and family members coming to say goodbye. They, too, were treated with the same kindness and compassion that had been shown to our immediate family, and I know Jesse did so much behind the scenes to take care of everyone. When it was time for our son’s honor walk, Jesse walked with us and wore his hero scrub cap. He said it was because our son is a hero! Oh, my heart!

The heart that man holds is amazing, and it showed when he and a coworker drove 4.5 hours, one way, to attend our son’s service. I know without a doubt, God put Jesse in our lives and used him in so many ways, and I am beyond grateful. He was a true light in the darkest days of our lives. I will forever remember him for his phenomenal acts of kindness and care for our son and baby brother in the last days of his life.
