My grandfather was transferred to the University with severe head trauma after a fall. We had several outstanding nurses during his stay there, but Jessi truly stood out. She was there for every member of my family to help explain the situation and teach about the care being provided.
She has a friendly, trusting smile and you knew when you left to go home for the evening or catch a bite to eat she was going to watch over my grandfather.
When it came time to make a decision on the well-being of my grandfather, she was right there at our family's side. Once we left the room and they removed all of the tubes, I will never forget the fact that she took the time to clean him up before we came back in to see him. She cleaned his face and groomed him to look presentable when we returned to the room. My grandfather did not survive long after they removed the tubes. My family was in the room as he passed away, and I remember looking in the corner of the room, away from plain sight, to view Jessi in the corner of the room praying with us and weeping with us as he passed. That alone will never be forgotten by any member of our family. Only one of a kind nurses, who truly are a nurse for the right reason, care that much for a patient and their family members that they barely even know. For her I am grateful. And hope that the next time I or a loved one need a "special" nurse, that she is by our side.
